I think the motivation for our road trips was to show my kids Australia.

From the time I was very young (about age 6) we often travelled as a family with nan and pop. Nan would travel by train to Lascelles to visit Aunty Jean, a trip that would take four days including changing trains at Kalgoorlie and Port Augusta due to differing rail gauges. Pop also took me with Uncle Harry to look for gold at Lake Ballard, just north of Menzies.
