My main limitation/frustration has been with the Department of Agriculture. I have often pondered how far I could have gone with a University degree. There was a degree of real frustration at having to play second fiddle to a person obviously intellectually inferior but with a university degree.

There are several major achievements in my life which I can’t separate.

1. Being the first non-graduate officer to achieve a level 6 at the Department of Agriculture
2. Being appointed to the position of IIC (Inspector in Charge) at WAQIS – later to become the manager (a professional position)
3. Being the leader of a group which retained the state quarantine within the Department of Agriculture. The government wanted to privatise this function. Our tender was successful – beating five private bids
4. To be happily married to mum for 50 years and to bring up four wonderful and achieving kids
