4th I may also add, with you Lordship’s permission, though I am aware that Military Service is not allowed to enter as a factor, in the computation of pension served by Civil Servants, that I have served Her Gracious Majesty as a soldier since the 17th August 1839, and on leaving the Army joined the Police Force
James Cope – letters (1881-1883)

James Cope joined the 67th Regiment in the British Army on 17th.August, 1839 (this would make him only 15 years old). He then served in the London Metropolitan Police, the convict establishments of Bermuda, Gibraltar, and Western Australia, arriving in W.A. on 13th. July 1867.
