Sir, I have the honor to inform you that the persons whose names are stated in the margin have been appointed assistant Warders on the Convict Establishment in Western Australia and that they will proceed to their destination on the ship “Norwood” which has been Chartered for the conveyance of convicts to that Colony.
James Cope: 58 pounds per annum
John Manning: 52 pounds per annum
Francis Lindsay: 52 pounds per annum
George Rogers: 52 pounds per annum
The whole of these Warders have received four months pay in advance and they have been instructed to take out with them an authenticated statement showing the dates to which they received Salary respectively on account of their Service in the Convict Prisons.
Certificates are annexed from the acting Medical Officers at Chatham Prisons and at Millbank where Cope was sent for Medical examination showing that the men who have been thus selected are in good health and capable of performing the duties of Assistant Warders in Western Australia. Assistant Warder Cope whose name is placed first on the list has had great experience in dealing with Convicts. He was a Warder at the Convict Establishment at Gibraltar and he has been Selected for transfer to Western Australia with the Consent of the Authorities at Gibraltar on account of the excellent character which he bears.
